Annual Travel Plans - Extension Guidelines
Extensions to cover trip duration longer than 60 days. The way the gap extension for a trip applies:
Before departing on your trip you need to purchase a separate policy (International or Australian) to cover you for the extended time (over 60 days) you will be away. Once you return to your residence in Australia the policy is reactivated, with the 60 days applying once again.
You only need to purchase a policy that covers the region you will be in after the 60 days is up eg:
International Extensions
Region 1 covers the Americas ...
Region 2 covers Africa ...
Region 3 covers Europe or the Middle East...
Region 4 covers Asia, china, Japan and Indian Subcontinent ...
Region 5 covers UK and Ireland ...
Region 6 covers South Pacific and Norfolk Is ...
Region 7 covers New Zealand...
Australian Extension The Australian Travel Plan covers Australia
Costings for this extra policy is available if you go online and quote, as it depends on your age and destination, plus further extensions can be added provided the policy is still current.
If you purchase an Annual Policy, once you know the dates and destination of your trip after 60 days, you may then purchase an International or Australian policy to cover your extension .
If you intend to cruise in deep waters or participate in any snow sports while you are away, then you need to purchase the cruise option and/or snow sports option in order to have cover for those activities under the Annual Travel Plans.
Accompanying Spouse Option...
The Annual Travel Plans now offer independent cover for your partner, including accompanying child/children, which means each adult can travel separately with children and be covered on one policy or your can purchase separate policies as the price is the same.
The Excess differences using the same policy is:
You are covered by the same departure date but if a claim is made then excess would be charged once, whereas two annual policies gives you the choice of different travelling dates but each policy would be charged an excess.
For example;
If you were travelling together and your flights were cancelled, then you would both be making a claim for expenses incurred.
If you are on same policy the excess that applies to your policy, would be charged once. OR
If you are on separate policies you would each be charged the excess. (Excess is either $200 or $Nil)
If you are adding your spouse after the initial certificate is issued, then it is processed as an upgrade to the existing policy. The price is the same but you have cover for less time, as the expiry date would be the same as the existing policy.
Consider a new policy for your partner if they decide to travel after the first certificate is issued.
QBE Cooling off Period ... If, having purchased the policy, you want to cancel it, you can do so within 21 days of receiving the Certificate of Insurance and obtain a full refund, provided no right or power has been exercised under it by you (eg no claim has been made) and your trip has not commenced. QBE's cooling off period does not apply to policy or trip extensions.
